After work this evening, I was finally able to check out the partially collapsed building at 217 Court Street. Both sides of the street between Wyckoff and Warren were marked with police tape, though the sidewalk opposite the building was open to pedestrian traffic. There was a large dumpster and crane in front of the building and a heavy police presence in the area.
The good news? Officers at the scene told me that the amazing Thai restaurant next door to the building, Joya, was spared any damage. It was closed, the entire building where Joya stands having been evacuated for precautionary reasons. Joya and the rest of the building will remain that way until 217 Court Street is demolished. The officers told me that demolition will come soon, most likely tomorrow (Friday).
So, don’t plan on eating at Joya tomorrow night.
